On Math

So, you may or may not have noticed that I am in Advanced Algebra 1 Honors. Honestly, I thought I would just get into Adv Algebra without the Honors part so I was kind of shocked. Not to brag or anything, but yes,I am a nerd, okay, I have to be at least moderately intelligent.
See, me and math have a long line of hatred for each other. I am a book nerd, not a numbers nerd. Seriously, in the 5th grade my favorite thing to say was, "If math was a person I would shoot it 7 times and throw it down a well." Yeah...I was kind of weird.
In 6th grade, I was recommended for this test to get me into Algebra 1 in 7th grade in stead of Pre-Algebra, like every one else. It was then that I vowed to never do more math than was required of me. So I was with a ton of idiots through out my middle school math, but I have no regrets.
In High School, if I had stayed in public school, normal would have Geometry. However, in my private school, Algebra was normal, but you could take a test to get into Geometry. Going back to my pledge, I didn't do anything in effort to be in Geometry. So I took the placement test, and got the highest possible rating in all except for Quantitative skills. So I knew I would be in Advanced but I didn't expect Honors.
But I did get 99th Percentile in Comprehension :).
So now, I am sticking with my Honors class, but only because I've already taken the class before, so it should be a breeze. I hope.

On Thinking

I have had at least 3 teachers say in class at some point that we students don't think in complete sentences. Why they say this,  I have no clue, but it seems to be a recurring subject in class. This got me thinking, in complete sentences!
I may only notice this because the subject was brought up, but I realize that yes, I think in sentences. Also, I am positive that I am not unique in this. My 11 year old cousin says he does too. The more I think about this, the more it gets on my nerves.
Now, whenever I think, I can't have a thought without being like, "Hah! That was in a complete paragraph!"
Seriously, I think better than I write!
This is just something for you readers to think about. In complete sentences.

On Sugar

I decided to write about candy today. Because I find sugary things as a very controversial subject among my house.
My dad owns a bike store. Ultimate heath foodie, athlete, old man, right here. He won't eat anything with sugar, except for a spoonful of ice cream straight from the tub when we are actually permitted to have any of the heavenly substance in the house. The only cereals in my house ever are Grape Nuts and Shredded Wheat. And the occasional Honey Nut Cheerios during the school year. One time, my brother Clyde, bought his own Lucky Charms and kept them stashed in his room. As "healthy" as this makes my life, I have come to realize just how bad it makes me really eat.
Because I am deprived of sugary things in the house, it makes me believe that I can eat whatever when I'm not in my house and be okay. (One of the reasons I love spending the night with my cousins is that they have a constant stream of Cocoa Puffs and all that heaven)
Now, I love sugar, and unfortunately, the only candy I don't like is Chiclets gum.  Like really, who wants to eat something flavored "violet"?
I got a blood test back last month and apparently I have semi-high blood sugar. Now, we're not talking diabetes, but still I need to lay off the sugar.
*eats strawberry muffin with frosting*
Seriously, lay off.

On Screen Doors and Those who Break Them

My dog Charlie is kind of stupid. I love this dog more than any dog alive, but it is a fact.

Just look at that face.   Cute right?

However, just like teenage girls, cute often equals a lack of intelligence. And this particular specimen of adorable just happens to be the type that doesn't think (or dog think) before they do rather idiotic things. Like running through the screen door and breaking it. While trying to chase birds.
Now, of course a few days after this my father goes and gets it repaired. The next day, I kid you not, I'm doing dishes innocently at 9:00pm and our German exchange student attempt to go outside. Through the screen door. Breaking the brand new screen door.
Our German exchange student is not as stupid as our dog. In fact he's not stupid at all. I think.
And it was dark and I can't really blame him for it. My dad should be able to get a new screen soon enough.
Plus he gave me the laugh of a lifetime.

On Social Circles

I realize, that from the outside, I may not be judged as a nerd by people that do not know me. The reasoning for this is simple: I do not hang out with other nerds. Don't get me wrong, I am most certainly a nerd (I go on dictionary.com for fun, okay?), but is not an unknown fact that people are often judged on their social circles, or cliques.
However, cliques is usually paired with stereotypes, and stereotyping usually has to involve clothing. When you have to wear a uniform, it can be kind of difficult to set apart the goths from the preppies and the preppies from the geeks. That doesn't mean they don't exist, but it makes it more difficult.
But, I did attend a public middle school, and from that alone, I can tell you enough about social circles. Now,  the reason I did not hang out with the nerds was simple, I hung out with the same people I hung out with in elementary school, and at my elementary school there were 3 groups of people. The kids who were dating since the 3rd grade, the kids who played Star Wars the Clone Wars at recess, and everyone else in between. (Okay, I did love ST and the Clone Wars version, but I didn't tell people that). And everyone over the age of 12 knows what happens to those groups in middle school. The dating kids start making out and partying, the nerds start debating Hunger Games and the people in the middle become all of the high school cliques in the makings. (Okay, I do also love the Hunger Games, but the popularity of it is kind of annoying)  Plus, I had TONS of actual nerd friends but I didn't "hang out" with them. It was more of a hi in the hallways thing.
If I had to choose a word for my middle school clique, it would have to be the Leftovers. There were people like me, who could NEVER hang with the populars but cared a tad too much about their appearance to be full on geeks. Then there were the wannabes who hung out with the populars in elementary school but got dropped along the social pyramid climb.
That was at school. The people I hung out with outside of school, them I would call the Single Ladies. Not a clique but self explanatory enough? Yeah.

On Introductions

Well, at the beginning of all things there should be an introduction. Once we get past this, we can begin some actually interesting things.

ON ME

To start, you can learn about the writer of this blog:
My name is Mac.
I am 14. I mean 13, but I will be 14 soon enough
I am 5"8.
I have been wearing glasses since the 5th grade
I am going to be a freshman at an all girls private school in August.
I could read 24/7 and be perfectly content with it.
I am a nerd

ON BLOGS

The reasons I started this blog was because I wanted to document my high school years. I really have no problem if absolutely no one reads it. In fact I probably prefer it that way. But if someone is to see it and read it, and if you are currently reading this I suppose you did just that, I don't have a problem with that either.

ON PLANS

What I plan to do with this blog is pretty much keep a journal. Except less personal. I'll talk about books I just read, or what ever is on my mind. Clearly, I will write more over summer than I will during high school but I hope to write at least every 3 days over summer and three times a month during school. So yeah.

Enjoy it if you must
